North Yorkshire Council is developing a Town Investment Plan (TIP) for Thirsk as part of a regeneration programme across 32 towns in the County. The plans will help guide future funding bids, build communities and ensure funding is targeted to local priorities.
This project is supported by David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire and part-funded by York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
Thirsk is a vibrant market town known for its racecourse, livestock market, rich history and connection to the renowned veterinary author James Alfred Wight (better known as James Herriot). The town boasts a central cobbled square, historic clock tower, and a long-standing market. It is filled with independent shops, places to eat, and businesses, making it a popular destination for visitors.
Alongside villages Carlton Miniott, South Kilvington and Sowerby, Thirsk is in the Vale of Mowbray situated around the Cod Beck river. It is easily accessible by train and just minutes off the A1.
We want to find out what the important investment priorities are for the people and businesses of the town. We are focusing on six themes:
